Travel Industry Welcomes Senate Bill to Increase CBP Staffing

U.S. Travel Association Senior Vice President of Government Relations Victoria Barnes issued the following statement upon the introduction of S.2314, which would increase the number of of U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at ports of entry: 

“Not only is an adequately-resourced CBP essential to our national security, but we have hard evidence that the U.S. economy and job creation suffer when our customs and entry processes aren’t operating efficiently. Though international travel is America’s No. 2 export, our share of that market has been eroding versus our competitors since 2015, and bolstering CBP staffing is a valuable part of the comprehensive policy approach we need to make sure the U.S. is enjoying the full economic benefit of strong and secure visitation.

“The U.S. travel community is grateful to Sens. McCaskill, Tester, Harris and Heitkamp for spearheading the legislative effort to help ensure that CBP has what it needs to perform its critical job for our country.”
