November 02, 2017 By U.S. Travel Association
Nielsen’s experience with critical security issues will be key to implementing a balanced approach to travel facilitation.
The U.S. Travel Association urges the Senate to approve the nomination of Kirstjen Nielsen as Secretary of Homeland Security without delay. Our industry believes that Ms. Nielsen is a qualified leader who can balance enhanced security policies with the message that America is open for business—a message the international travel community needs to hear.
We are heartened by Ms. Nielsen’s vast experience with a range of issues critical to the performance of the Department of Homeland Security, including previous work on aviation security, international engagement and cybersecurity. Her interagency experience, along with her previous role as deputy to White House Chief of Staff and former Secretary John Kelly, will be crucial to implementing a balanced approach to travel facilitation and border security at DHS.
We look forward to a productive relationship with Ms. Nielsen and Acting Secretary Elaine Duke on advancing smart travel security policies, and ensuring that America remains secure and open to legitimate international visitors.
